About Rhyl and St Asaph Angling Association
Rhyl and St Asaph Angling Association (Cymdeithas Bysgota y Rhyl a Llanelwy) controls 21 river beats for salmon, sea trout (sewin) and wild brown trout on the rivers Clwyd, Elwy and Aled in North Wales. It was formed when Rhyl Angling Club and St Asaph Angling Association joined, and several of the beats are owned by the association. Members also have rods on the Dee at Bala and Llandderfel, a rod share with Llandeilo Angling Association on the Towy and Cothi, rods on Llyn Brenig, Llyn Aled Uchaf and Alwen Reservoir, and a spring fed club lake that is for members only.
This listing covers the two beats in Conwy: the River Aled at Llansannan, which sells day tickets, and the River Elwy at Bron Heulog, downstream of Llanfair Talhaiarn, which does not. One day or five day visitor permits for some beats are sold on the association’s website or over the counter at Foxons Tackle in St Asaph. The association’s pages do not give a price for visitor permits.
New adult membership is £180, young adult membership (16 to 21) £30, lake only membership £100 and juniors under 16 pay a £10 fee and then nothing. If the membership is full, contact the membership secretary to join the waiting list. The association encourages voluntary catch and release of wild brown trout and runs free introduction to fly fishing days. A Natural Resources Wales rod licence is needed.
