About Rutland Water
Rutland Water is a large reservoir near Oakham in Rutland, run as a trout fishery by Anglian Water Parks and fished from both bank and boat. Trout can only be fished for with a fly, and the water is well known for its brown trout. The 2026 season runs from 14 March 2026 to 31 January 2027.
Day permits cover eight fish plus catch and release at £40, or four fish plus catch and release at £34, with a senior citizen permit at the four fish price allowing six fish. A zero-kill sporting permit at £28 is fished on barbless flies. Season permits are sold in four grades, from the Sporting permit at £720 up to Gold at £1,330, as four water tickets. All brown trout must be returned alive.
Permits are sold from the tackle shop at the Fishing Lodge at Normanton and can be booked online, and boats are booked online or at the lodge. Bank tickets are fly fishing for trout only. In the autumn and winter months Rutland also opens for predator fishing with lures for pike, perch and zander.
