About Balder Fishery
Balder Fishery is 380 metres of wild water on the River Balder, with brown trout, grayling and the rare chance of a salmon. The Passport calls the Balder an incredibly wild and almost prehistoric river, full of character, with virgin water that is mostly heavily tree lined with rocky scars and boulders. It describes a small, challenging river with pocket water and small deep pools, and suggests the beat is wonderful for a couple of hours.
Wading is hard, a wading staff is a must and care is needed near the steep banks. Its go to methods are single upstream spiders, nymphs and dry fly, on a rod of 6ft 6in or 7ft 6in rated 2 or 3, and the page adds that a small spinning rod with a Mepps, or a worm, could bring an exciting surprise.
Season dates on the page: salmon 1 February to 30 October, sea trout 3 April to 30 October, trout 22 March to 30 September, grayling 16 June to 14 March. All species are catch and release, dogs are not allowed and the beat has a wash-off policy. One ticket is sold a day. The all species day ticket (in season) costs £5. It is booked through the Fishing Passport.
