About Claerwen Reservoir
Claerwen is a 900 acre reservoir in the Claerwen Valley, the largest of the Elan Valley waters. The association describes it as a wild brown trout fishery with natural fish that are never restocked, and it is fly only.
Welsh Water, which owns the estate, says the permit covers 20 km of shoreline except a small fish and wildlife conservation area at the top end. The Claerwen ticket also covers the feeder streams and a small group of upland lakes far from the road, Llyn Gynon, Llyn Carw and the two Cerrigllwydion pools, which need a long walk. Welsh Water excludes Llyn Gwngu, Llyn Fyrddon Fach, Llyn Fyrddon Fawr and Llyn Du. The fishing season runs from 20 March to 17 October and there are no boats or float tubes.
In 2026 the day permit is £18 and the season permit £75. The limit is 4 fish, then catch and release. The position shown is approximate.
