Rhayader and Elan Valley Angling Association

In the Elan Valley it sells fishing on the four Elan reservoirs, Caban Coch, Garreg Ddu, Pen y Garreg and Craig Goch, which together cover 850 acres, and on the 900 acre Claerwen Reservoir. Both are fly only waters with wild brown trout. The association also owns Llyngwyn, a 16 acre spring fed lake about three miles from Rhayader that it stocks regularly with rainbow trout, and which is open from 18 October to 30 June.

Permits are sold in Rhayader at Hafod Hardware in East Street and at D. Powell Newsagents in West Street, and the reservoir and river permits are also sold at the Elan Valley Visitor Centre. Concessions are offered for juniors, OAP and disabled anglers, and the junior season ticket covers all of the association’s waters. A Natural Resources Wales rod licence is needed, and buying a permit means accepting the association’s risk statement.
