About Deepdale Woods
Deepdale Woods is 4.7 kilometres of Deepdale Beck for wild brown trout, which the Passport describes as challenging water that has never been fished. It adds that recent monitoring has shown salmon in the beck and spawning in good numbers. The beck fishes better with a touch of water in it, and has deep holes and plenty of cover for fish. Much of it is heavily wooded and hard to fish, with open stretches around the deep holes. The ticket also covers 1.5 kilometres of double bank on Raygill Beck, and a small section of the main Tees down to Silver Bridge.
Wading is of average difficulty, a wading staff is advisable and there is bedrock, so watch for shelves. The beck can rise fast, so check the weather before you go. Deepdale Woods is a nature reserve and the page asks anglers to respect it. For trout the page suggests spiders, nymphs, dry fly and short line streamers on a 6ft to 7ft rod rated 2 to 4, and for salmon a slightly larger rod with low water doubles and singles such as Stoats Tails.
Season dates on the page are brown trout 25 March to 30 September, and sea trout and salmon 3 April to 31 October. It is fly fishing only with barbless hooks, all species are catch and release, dogs are not allowed and the beat has a wash-off policy. Up to three tickets are sold a day. The all species day ticket (in season) is listed at ยฃ7 to ยฃ8. It is booked through the Fishing Passport.
