About River Welland, Harringworth, Guash Fishing Club water
This is the club’s River Welland beat at Harringworth, on the southern border of Rutland, starting at the Harringworth Viaduct and running for about a mile and a half. The river there is split into three beats, upper, middle and lower, each with its own character. The club does not give their limits, so the position shown is approximate. The club has a second Welland stretch at Uffington, east of Stamford, which is not shown on this listing.
The Welland is a spate river and can rise sharply in heavy rain. It is wider than the Gwash, which gives more room to cast, with a range of pools, riffles and straight water, and some very deep pools at the upper beat. Wading is allowed from 16 June to the end of the season. The club’s rules also cover coarse fishing on parts of the Welland.
You fish it as a member. Membership is limited to 130, applications are taken each January, there is a short waiting list, and the joining fee is £240 with a £200 annual subscription.
