About Llyngwyn Lake
Llyngwyn is a 16 acre spring fed natural lake in quiet countryside about three miles east of Rhayader, off the A44 and A470, owned by the association. A stone road leads to a car park at the lakeside. It is mainly a rainbow trout water, stocked regularly, with some brown trout, and the association calls it a Troutmaster water. The depth runs from shallow margins to 55 feet. The association’s lake page also says the lake still holds the carp strain the monks of Abbey Cwm Hir stocked in the twelfth century, and that you can fish for them with fly tackle.
The season runs from 18 October to 30 June, and the lake is closed in July, August and September. Fishing is fly only. The bag limit is 2 fish, then catch and release, and catch and release is allowed with barbless hooks. In 2026 the day permit is £27 and the season permit £260.
