Lower Mill, Longparish sits within the grounds of a mill house in the village of Longparish, on the River Test in Hampshire, at a point where the river flows south through Whitchurch and Longparish before the Dever and Anton join the main channel near Chilbolton. The beat is split into two sections of double-bank main river, with two small carriers that can also be fished, and it goes out to a maximum of 0 rods per day, keeping the water genuinely quiet.

Most of the fishing is best done wading, though the water is neither deep nor fast and both banks are accessible throughout. Pools, riffles and glides follow one another along the beat, with some open, straightforward water and tighter, tree-lined stretches that ask more of the angler. The upper valley position brings excellent water clarity alongside prolific hatches, and the beat carries a good mix of lightly stocked and wild brown trout alongside healthy shoals of grayling. April fishing responds well to Large Dark Olive, Grannom Caddis and Hawthorn patterns, before the mayfly arrives in May, followed in June by Blue-Winged Olive and Medium Olive hatches. Grayling extend the season through to 15 December. Fishing is fly only, dry fly and nymph, upstream presentation expected. Day tickets from £240. Grayling season days from £70.

A rod room is provided for lunch, equipped with china, cutlery, glassware, a fridge and a kettle, with spare waders available on site and a picnic table outside. The beat fishes from 9.30am to dusk and is booked exclusively through Fly Odyssey Chalkstream.
