About Marton Heath Trout Pools
Marton Heath has three trout pools at Pikelow Farm in Marton, north east Cheshire, half a mile down School Lane off the A34, three miles north of Congleton. The original two acre Don’s Pool was dug in 1987 and takes 15 rods. A second pool followed in 1990 for another 15 rods, and Woodside Pool was dug in 1998, which brought the trout water to seven acres in all. The pools are man made, with trees, hedges and wildflowers planted around them.
The pools are stocked as often as the fishery feels necessary, with rainbows up to 1kg that provide the main catches for the table. Larger fish are stocked along with brown trout, and those specimen fish are catch and release only. The trout pools have a completely barbless rule, traditional fly patterns are preferred, and small lures up to size 10 are allowed. Puppies, boobies, pellet imitations and bite indicators are not.
Everyone books in at reception in the farmyard, where a selection of tickets is available. The fishery also has a separate coarse pool. Anglers with a blue badge can drive to a car park much closer to the pools, and disabled anglers can travel to the water’s edge, about 100 yards from the main car park.
