About Crabtree Lake
Crabtree is the lake at the far end of the field at South Elmham Lakes, which the fishery calls its catch and release lake. It has open margins for easy casting and mature trees on the northern bank, and it holds stock fish and over wintered rainbows and browns.
The fishery describes long, silver sided rainbows and browns with greenish backs and golden brown spotted sides from its chalky clay water. On dull days the fish move in close through the margin rushes and can be stalked on a nymph or dry fly.
A day permit lets you take up to 3 stock rainbows here, and once you have reached your limit on the other lakes you can carry on catch and release on Crabtree for the rest of your visit. Fishing is fly only with barbless hooks, and brown trout stay in the water.

Rules and policies
Fishing rules for Crabtree Lake
Buy a permit online before you enter the fishery, or message the bailiff if you cannot. Fly fishing only: barbless hooks only, with barbs pinched flat. Fishing is from dawn to dusk and night fishing is not allowed. All brown trout and all rainbows over 3lb must be released. Fish that are released must be unhooked in the water, and brown trout must not be taken out of the water for unhooking or photographs. Frog Hall and Old Hall lakes each have a catch limit of 3 fish a day, whether taken or released, and fish count as landed when they touch the net, bank, forceps or hand. Exceeding a catch limit needs an additional permit. Use the nets and fish bags provided. Ideally no dogs; if you bring one it must be under constant close supervision and not disturb wildlife. Coarse fishing gear is not allowed.
