About Sticking Hill Lake
Sticking Hill Lake is an 8.5 acre reservoir on the Orsett Estates in Thurrock, used to supply the estate’s vegetable crops and fished by a fly fishing syndicate since 2003. Besides the trout it holds sticklebacks, rudd, perch and perhaps the odd eel, none of which you will catch on a fly.
The lake is stocked twice a season, at the end of February or start of March and at the end of May, with rainbows and browns that average 2 to 3lb, and some larger browns up to 8 or 9lb. The season runs from 1 March to 31 October. Fishing is fly only. Two fish per person can be taken each day, and the rest are returned.
Membership is limited and by joining the syndicate, through the Essex Country Sports office. The lake is large for the number of members, so it rarely feels busy.
