About Leek and District Fly Fishing Association
Leek and District Fly Fishing Association was founded in 1972 by Leek anglers who wanted more fly fishing, particularly on rivers. Its stated aim is affordable and quality fly fishing for its members. It fishes the Upper Dove, Dovedale, the Lower Dove and the Churnet, the Churnet at Lord’s Bridge, the River Hamps and Bentley Brook, and has recently added the Manifold at Ilam. The water is wild trout and grayling fishing, and the club says it has not stocked any of its waters since 2015. The Dove here is the boundary between Staffordshire and Derbyshire, and the club works with the National Trust, the Environment Agency, the Grayling Society, the Wild Trout Trust and the Salmon and Trout Association.
This is a members’ association with no day tickets. Joining is through a paid waiting list, which the club says is three years long as of 2026. You pay £50 to go on the list, taken as a deposit and credited against a £500 initial fee that the club says is refunded when membership ends. The annual fee is £372, or £31 a month, and the membership year runs from 1 March to the last day of February. Applicants often wait, and may be offered a place the season after they apply. Joining part way through a season is only by agreement of the membership secretary or the committee.
Members can bring guests. A guest ticket costs £20 for one day or £30 for two, with one guest ticket per member per day and six per season. The club also has a ticket swap arrangement with several clubs elsewhere in the UK. The club has no published phone number or email; use the contact form on its website.
How fishing here works
- Waiting list
- Membership is capped. New members join a queue, which can run to several years depending on the club.
- Guest tickets
- A member can bring a guest fishing, usually capped at a set number of days a season.
- Exchange ticket
- A reciprocal arrangement with another club: members of each can fish the other's water on production of their own club card.
