About River Wye, Rhayader
This is the Rhayader and Elan Valley Angling Association’s water on the Wye: about five miles from one mile south of Rhayader to approximately four miles north of the town. The A470 and A44 run along the whole stretch, so it is easy to reach. The association says it offers excellent brown trout and grayling fishing, that the river is stocked every other year on top of the natural head of brown trout, and that salmon reach the upper Wye towards the end of the season. Coarse fish are also caught.
The association describes the exact limits by distance from the town rather than by landmarks, and its maps mark its fishing rights with a black line, so the position shown is approximate.
You fish it on a day or season permit that covers the Wye, Elan, Marteg and Claerwen, at £15 a day or £40 for a season in 2026.
