About Salopian Fly Fishers Association
Salopian Fly Fishers Association was formed in November 1969 to provide fly fishing in Shropshire, and describes its aim today as affordable fly fishing. Its water is two stretches of river and six stillwater pools. On the River Clun, a wild trout and grayling river in south Shropshire, it fishes at Clungunford. It also has around two miles of the River Worfe near Worfield. The pools are two at Boldings, near Bridgnorth and Broseley, two at Brineton, near Wheaton Aston, and two at Fiddler’s Rough, at Astley Abbotts, which opened for fishing in September 2025.
The Clun is not stocked and the Worfe is catch and release in practice, with members allowed two brown trout over 10 inches a week for the table. The pools are stocked with trout and have a weekly limit of four fish taken. Fishing is fly only with barbless or de-barbed hooks, and members and guests need an Environment Agency rod licence.
Membership applications are considered by the committee and new members are recruited as places become available. To ask, use the contact form on the club’s site. A member may bring a guest up to six times a year at £15 a visit. The site does not give the membership fee or say whether there is a waiting list.
