About Fiddler’s Rough Pools
Fiddler’s Rough is a pair of forty year old pools at Astley Abbotts, between Bridgnorth and Broseley, fed by local springs and a small stream. They fished for a local syndicate for many years and are the club’s newest water, opened for fishing in September 2025. There is a private car park 50 metres from the road, a hut for signing in and out, and casting platforms as well as bank fishing. A 5 or 6 weight rod and a floating line will probably be the first choice.
The larger Barrie pool is stocked mostly with rainbows, and members may take fish from it for the table. The smaller Lea pool is catch and release only, is stocked with brown trout, and is fished with a floating line using dry flies, nymphs and buzzers only, with no lures. Browns are catch and release on all the club’s waters. The water is for members of Salopian Fly Fishers Association, who may bring a guest up to six times a year at £15 a visit. The position shown is approximate.
