About Afon Tryweryn, Bala
The Tryweryn at Bala is a wild brown trout river, with grayling on the lower reaches and migrating salmon, and it is fished by Bala and District Angling Association. The association allows fly and worm only, with no spinning at any time, and no maggots or ground baiting. Salmon must be returned.
The river rises quickly when water is released from Llyn Celyn, and it is used a great deal for canoeing and rafting, so it is busy at weekends. As a guide the club gives low levels as about 0.5 to 0.6m on the Natural Resources Wales gauge, 0.8 to 1.0m as nice water and above 1.5m as high. No fishing is allowed from a point 27.4m above Tryweryn weir to the confluence with the Dee.
The association’s 2026 day ticket is £17.50 and a weekly ticket £50. The club does not say where its water starts and ends, so the position shown is approximate and taken from the club’s own map.
