Bhompston Fly Fishers lies on the River Frome below Lower Bockhampton Lane, deep in Thomas Hardy country, in Dorset. It's syndicate water, booked on an annual subscription for a named day rather than sold as day tickets, and it includes the Gardeners Beat: three quarters of a mile of extra water running upstream of Bhompston Hatches to Lower Bockhampton Bridge.

The fishing runs through pools, glides and riffles, and the water has a reputation for producing Brown Trout, Grayling, some of them genuinely large. Every fish is returned. It can be tough going at times, and the valley itself is quiet, which is as much a reason to fish here as the fish themselves. Brown trout run from April to mid-October, with grayling from mid-June through to mid-March.

Two rods fish per named day, with each rod's annual subscription priced at £490. This is a small, settled syndicate rather than an open day-ticket water, better suited to anglers who want a fixed arrangement on a quiet beat than a one-off visit.
