About Birkin Brook
Birkin Brook is the main stream of the water controlled by Bollin and Birkin Flyfishers, and a tributary of the River Bollin. The club’s website lists four numbered Birkin beats.
The club says the brook has a predominantly sandy bed with intermittent gravel and weed beds, and that years of work on the banks and the water have improved the fly life. It names Yellow Sally, Yellow May Dun, Blue Wing Olive and mayfly, with free swimming caddis, shrimp and nymphs. For the resident brown trout it describes upstream nymphing as highly successful, and a carefully placed dry fly as another way to a fish, even when nothing is rising.
Fishing is fly only, on barbless hooks, and every fish caught is released. The water is for members of the club. The position shown is approximate.
