About Boxmoor Trout Fishery
Boxmoor Trout Fishery is a three acre lake in redeveloped watercress beds at Boxmoor, Hemel Hempstead, with the Grand Union Canal to the south and the River Bulbourne running alongside. The water is spring fed from artesian wells and filtered through chalk from the Chilterns. Depths run from 6 to 15 feet over gravel and flint, and the lake also holds common carp, perch and the occasional ide.
The lake is stocked with rainbow trout every few weeks, apart from May to August, and holds resident brown trout that are returned. Fishing is fly only with barbless hooks, from dawn to sunset, and the lake is closed on Mondays except bank holidays. The daily limit is five rainbows and the weekly limit is fifteen.
The fishing is for members and shareholders, and day tickets are not available. A full season ticket for 50 fish was £400 in the club’s 2025 to 2026 season, and there is a half season ticket from 1 September. Members’ guests can fish on a 5 fish ticket at £50 or a 2 fish ticket at £30. Membership is limited, and the membership secretary can arrange a tour by appointment.
