About River Severn, Caersws Angling Association
This is Caersws Angling Association’s water on the upper River Severn: about seven miles of double bank fishing. The association’s location page gives parking at the car park beside Caersws bridge, at Llandinam (public car park, and Llandinam Meadows near the waterworks) and at the Gravels Nature Reserve car park upstream of Llandinam, but it does not name individual beats or say where the water starts and ends, so the position shown is approximate.
The river holds trout, grayling and salmon. The association asks anglers to return grayling, and its trout season runs from 18 March to 7 October and its salmon season from 1 February to 7 October, with the grayling season from 16 June to 14 March. Most of the water is fly only, but downstream of the sign below the Carno Brook confluence, to a point opposite the old Llys Maldwyn Hospital, bait with restrictions and spinning are also allowed. In dry weather compensation water from Clywedog Reservoir, about ten miles upstream on the Afon Clywedog, helps the flow, and the association asks visitors to check the river level on the Severn Trent website first, especially in wet weather. It names grannom, stone and needle flies and various upwinged flies among the hatches.
A day ticket costs £22 and is sold at the Premier Store and CostCutter’s Garage in Caersws. Members fish on a season ticket, £160 a year, with concession and junior rates, from the membership secretary.
