About River Greta, Bridge Beat, Greta Bridge to Brignall
This is the Bridge Beat on the River Greta, Darlington Fly Fishers Club’s stretch from Greta Bridge towards Brignall. It begins with double bank fishing from Greta Bridge to the large Scotchman’s Stone on the north bank, with Eastwood Hall visible upstream on the opposite bank. From the stone it continues on the north bank only as far as the upstream field boundary at Brignall Glebe, a field holding the ruins of St Mary’s Church. A shorter rod, light tackle and a wading staff are recommended, and because parts of the beat are remote the club suggests telling somebody where you are going.
The club fishes by artificial fly only for wild brown trout and grayling. It is members only. Membership is limited to about 40 rods and costs £135 a year. The position shown is approximate. Parking and entry details are kept in the club’s members area.
