About River Greta, Mill Beat
This is the Mill Beat, also called Rutherford Beat, on the River Greta, which Darlington Fly Fishers Club describes as remote, intimate fishing on a secluded stretch. It is single bank fishing on the north bank, downstream of Rutherford Bridge. Wading can be tricky and the club says the beat suits anglers who are physically fit, with some very secluded pools and glides. A shorter rod, light tackle and a wading staff are recommended, and because it is remote the club suggests telling somebody where you are going and carrying a mobile phone.
The club fishes by artificial fly only for wild brown trout and grayling. It is members only. Membership is limited to about 40 rods and costs £135 a year. The club does not say where the beat starts and ends beyond downstream of Rutherford Bridge, so the position shown is approximate. Parking and entry details are kept in the club’s members area.
