About the River Greta (Tees)

The River Greta is a tributary of the River Tees in County Durham. It runs past Bowes and Greta Bridge and joins the Tees at the Meeting of the Waters near Rokeby. Its name comes from Old Norse and Old English words for coarse stones. Around Greta Bridge the river is the boundary between the parishes of Rokeby and Brignall. This is the Greta that joins the Tees, not the Greta in Cumbria.
