About River Cothi, Edwinsford Estate
Edwinsford Estate has over five miles of mostly double bank fishing on the River Cothi, near Talley in Carmarthenshire, divided into six beats with over 40 named pools and riffles. Abernaint is the uppermost and longest beat, with easy wading over gravel shoals and a short stretch of the Anneth, a small spring fed river the sewin use to spawn. The Mansion is the shortest beat but one of the most productive, with two large holding pools and a centuries old stone bridge. The Shoot is fished mostly from the left bank and is the last of the gravel wading. The Forest runs between steep timbered banks with fast fly water, and The Canyon, the lowest beat, drops through a bedrock gorge into deep holding water. The House Beat is usually reserved for the family and can be fished by previous arrangement. The estate does not say where each beat starts and ends, so the position shown is approximate.
The estate fishes for salmon, sea trout (sewin) and brown trout. Salmon and sewin are fished with fly and spinner in high water and are strictly catch and release. Wild brown trout between half a pound and three pounds are taken in the upper beats on fly and spinner. The estate’s fishing page gives catch records of 14 salmon and 24 sewin for 2023 and 22 salmon and 32 sewin for 2022.
The estate publishes no prices, season dates or booking page. Contact it by telephone to ask about the fishing. A guide is available with prior booking.
