About Nant Moel Reservoir
Nant Moel is a fly only reservoir of over 12 acres at the top of the Cynon valley, fished by Aberdare and District Angling Association, which calls it a fly fishing only water in idyllic countryside. The club stocks it regularly with rainbow trout averaging 2lb, with many larger fish up to 7lb and the occasional blue trout, and all brown trout caught must be released. A team of bailiffs patrols day and night.
Four level platforms reach slightly out into the water, with ramps and flat paths for wheelchair users, benches, a secure car park, a shelter and a members’ cabin. The club has a rowing boat that full members can use, and the rules do not allow it for day ticket holders. Own electric engines are allowed.
The limit is one fish killed a day, the first one caught, after which fishing stops, and up to ten fish caught and released on barbless hooks, with four fish killed a week at most. Day permits are sold at Hirwaun Post Office or online on the day of use. The position shown is approximate.
