About New Platt Lake

New Platt Lake covers about 37 acres at Allostock, near the village of Goostrey, with two islands and woodland around most of its edge. It was formed in the 1980s when the workings of a sand quarry were flooded. The lake is fairly shallow: the deepest water, down to 12 feet, is in the west and south, the north east is only 3 to 4 feet deep, and much of the lake is between 5 and 7 feet. It is fed through the water table and a small ditch on the east bank.
