About Tawe - Beat One
Tawe Beat One is about 2½ miles of wild stream brown trout fishing on the headwaters of the Tawe in the Brecon Beacons National Park, in the shadow of the mountain lake Llyn-y-Fan. Streams leading from the lake enter the main river at various points on the beat, and the Passport says it is ideal for a roving angler moving from pool to pool. It calls the brown trout fishing on the Tawe and its tributaries a well kept secret: it is very lightly fished and suits nymph and dry fly, and the river has a healthy fly life with hatches of upwings that are at times prolific.
The best fishing is in the afternoon in March, April and May, with March Brown and Large Dark Olive hatches. In summer the best of it is in the evening, when the Blue Winged Olive is the main hatch. This is club water, so exclusivity cannot be guaranteed.
It is fly fishing only, all species are catch and release, and dogs are not allowed. No night fishing or overnight camping. It is booked through the Fishing Passport.
