About Upper Cilieni
Upper Cilieni extends for a mile upstream from the village of Pentre Bach on the Cilieni, a remote tributary of the Usk that joins the main river just below Sennybridge. The Passport calls it true wild stream fishing, ideal for fishing upstream with very light tackle: the river narrows and meanders as you go up, with some good pools to explore. It is right bank only and fishable in thigh waders, though some of the pools are deep. The Passport suggests a rod of 6.5 to 7.5 feet rated 1 to 4 weight.
You can also try the Eithrim, a smaller stream on the other side of Pentre Bach, but only where the beat map outlines the left bank in red. It is fly fishing only, two trout may be taken per rod and anything under 9 inches must be returned. Dogs are allowed if kept under control. It is a Wild Stream beat: it is booked through the Fishing Passport, or fished on a Wild Stream Season Permit.
