About River Dee, Old Lower Hall
Old Lower Hall is a left bank beat directly below The Chicken Sheds, starting at the fence above the old hall and ending at the club’s sign just below the Deep Run. The club names its water in order: Hall Pool, which has numerous salmon lies down the left bank and is excellent fly water with good pace, the long Oxbow Run, good for all methods and for chub, the tree lined Oxbow Pool, and Gravel Bank Run, which it calls excellent fly water even at low water, with salmon and sea trout anywhere along it.
Below that come Sandbanks, the Big Pool and the Gravel Bar, where careful wading in low to medium flows lets you reach the far bank, then Deep Corner and Deep Run. The lower pools are overgrown with steep banks and suit coarse fishing, spinning or worm. The club warns that the soft bottom and deep water make wading unsafe in places, and the stretch behind the old hall is private and out of bounds.
This water is for members. The club’s 2025 tariff lists full annual adult membership at £95 with a £10 joining fee. The position shown is approximate.
