About River Dee, Rodens Hall
Rodens Hall continues the club’s water downstream from The Captain’s and is about a mile of left bank fishing, full of twists and turns. It starts about half a mile above the car park at the bend below Eel Cottage, where the shallow gravel water is good for fly and large shoals of sea trout have been known to hold, with salmon by the wall on the far bank and grayling and wild brown trout as well.
Below it the club names the Ferry Crossing Pool, on the site of an old ferry between Shocklach and Is-y-Coed, the Car Park Pool, Mile Deep, the Shingles, Phil’s Run and the Sand Pool. The Shingles to the long straight can be very productive for grayling, many of them large, and the run above the Ferry Crossing is known for sea trout. A gate and hedge row mark the end of the beat and the start of Done’s Meadow. Past the Sand Pool the banks are steep and the club says getting to the water can be dangerous.
There is a riverside car park for five to eight cars at the end of a farm track, which the club says may need four wheel drive in winter. This water is for members. The club’s 2025 tariff lists full annual adult membership at £95 with a £10 joining fee. The position shown is approximate, estimated from the order and lengths of the club’s beats.
