About River Dee, Done’s Meadow
Done’s Meadow was first secured on a five year lease in 2001 and is about 500 yards of left bank on the inside of a horseshoe bend, with the bottom of Rodens Hall as its top boundary. It starts in a deep pool with overhanging trees, where the steep banks make getting to the water difficult, then a glide and a fast broken run, and below it five groynes on the far bank. At low water salmon hold between the groynes, and they move to the near bank when the water is higher.
The club says the water has a reputation for holding salmon all season and at every height. It fishes well with the fly in lower water and best with a spinner in higher water. It also holds fine grayling, though the club says they may have moved on after winter floods changed the bottom, and flounders are often taken on worm or deeply fished spinners. It is the shortest of the club’s beats but has room for several anglers. Parking is by the Rodens Hall gate, and reaching the water takes a walk downstream. This water is for members. The club’s 2025 tariff lists full annual adult membership at £95 with a £10 joining fee. The position shown is approximate, estimated from the order and lengths of the club’s beats.
