About the River Cerne
A Dorset chalk stream of 10 miles, the River Cerne rises in the chalk of the Dorset Downs at Minterne Magna, springing up in the gap between High Stoy and Dogbury Hill. From there it runs south through Cerne Abbas and Charminster before joining the River Frome at Dorchester, one of the smaller tributaries feeding that larger chalk system.
The river holds Brown Trout, Grayling, and its modest size keeps it a tightly held water. Dorchester Fishing Club holds around half a mile of the River Cerne, kept for members and their guests only, with no day tickets sold on this stretch. Further downstream at Charminster, the Little Syndicate fishes a beat of its own, part of a wider syndicate that spans four rivers.
