About the River Churnet

The River Churnet is a tributary of the River Dove in Staffordshire. It rises over 1,000 feet up in the Staffordshire Moorlands, near the Roaches, and flows down to Tittesworth Reservoir and then through Leek. South of Cheddleton it runs through the Churnet Valley, which is steep and wooded, and the Caldon Canal shares its course for a while. It passes Froghall, Oakamoor, Alton and Rocester before it meets the Dove near Combridge.
