About the River Honddu (Usk)
The River Honddu rises on Mynydd Epynt and runs south for about 11 miles to join the River Usk at Brecon, which takes its Welsh name, Aberhonddu, from the river. It has no major tributaries, though it gathers many small streams on the way. The B4520 follows the valley through hamlets such as Upper Chapel, Lower Chapel and Llandefaelog, and the last mile and a half runs inside the Brecon Beacons National Park.
This is a small trout stream, fished with the fly. It is not the Honddu in the Black Mountains, which runs the other way to join the Monnow.
Native white-clawed crayfish live in the river, so anglers are asked to disinfect their waders, nets and tackle before and after fishing.
