About Llyn Fawr
Llyn Fawr is a 24 acre lake at 368 metres near the source of the Rhondda Fawr, south of Rhigos and overlooked by the crags of Craig y Llyn. It began as a smaller lake and was made into a reservoir in the early 20th century. Upper Rhondda Angling Association fishes it, and the club says its own fish farm produces the fish for the lake.
Fishing is artificial fly only from 3 March to 15 November, from one hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset. The limit is four takeable fish a day, six from 1 October to 15 November, with a 10 inch size limit, and brown trout must be returned from 20 March to 30 September. The club also runs catch and release days, with unlimited fish on barbless hooks. Its tips page names the grass bank and the inlet as productive areas.
The club’s tickets page lists a senior day ticket at £15 and a senior season ticket at £120, and the page shows no year. The position shown is approximate.
