About Penderyn Reservoir
Penderyn is a stone banked reservoir near Hirwaun that Mountain Ash Fly Fishers’ Association fishes from the bank and from boats. The club says it holds wild brown trout and stocked rainbows, and recalls a record rainbow of 12lb 12oz caught in 2012. Fishing is with fly rod, reel and artificial fly only.
The most a member may take is two fish in a day and six in a week, and the club asks for catch and release. Anglers sign in and report their catch at the members’ cabin by the car park, where they also book boats. The club has installed disabled casting platforms, steps along the stone banks and a boat pontoon, and has a wheelchair accessible boat. Boats are booked for members at £2 a session, and every boat user must wear a buoyancy aid.
Non members can buy a £20 day ticket from Hirwaun Post Office, which is closed on Sundays, so tickets should be bought in advance. The club’s normal rules apply to day ticket holders. The position shown is approximate.
