About Rowes Flashe, Winkworth Arboretum
Rowes Flashe is a lake of about 5 acres in the grounds of Winkworth Arboretum, a National Trust property south of Godalming, fished by the Winkworth Fly Fishers, a trout section of Godalming Angling Society that was set up in 1981. The society stocks it with triploid rainbow and brown trout, and says fish run up to 7lb. Anglers do not have to be members of the National Trust.
Fishing is from a boat only, and there are two boats, a two man boat and a one man boat, which members book in advance by email. It is fly only, with no hook larger than a number 8. Catch and release is authorised, and the bag limit for fish taken is 4 a week. The society says the season starts in early spring, depending on stocking, and runs to the end of December, with the first stocking in mid March. In summer, when trout fishing can be tricky, there are carp to target with the fly.
Fishing is for members of Winkworth Fly Fishers, who can bring a guest after the first calendar month of the season, not more than twice in seven days, for £15 a session. A guest may take 2 fish and release another 3. The society takes new members for the section by application form. The position shown is approximate.
