About Vale of Clwyd Angling Club
Vale of Clwyd Angling Club (Cymdeithas Enweirio Dyffryn Clwyd) was formed in 2015 when two local clubs joined, and the original Clwyd Angling Club is one of the oldest in Wales. It has about 150 members, juniors and seniors, and fishes from above Ruthin, at the top of the Vale of Clwyd, down to a point just outside St Asaph. Apart from a small number of sections, the club has single or double bank fishing for the whole length of the River Clwyd between its uppermost and lowest beats, for sea trout, salmon and wild brown trout. It also has several beats on the River Elwy, water on the rivers Clywedog, Wheeler and Ystrad, which feed the Clwyd, and Llyn Clywedog, a two acre members’ lake stocked with rainbow trout high in Clocaenog Forest.
The club takes a small number of tickets each year on Llyn Brenig and Alwen Reservoir, and on the Bala Angling Association waters, which are free to members for winter grayling fishing on the Dee. It has ticket exchanges with Gwent Angling Society, Nidderdale Angling Club, Derwent (Co. Durham) Angling Association, Llandeilo Angling Association and Dalbeattie Angling Association. Fishing methods are fly and spinning, subject to the all-Wales byelaws.
New members are welcome, although the club limits its numbers and keeps a waiting list when it is full. Membership runs from 1 March to 28 February and is applied for through the club’s Clubmate page: £170 for a full adult, with a reduced £155 for current members who pay before 31 March, £30 for a full time student under 25 and free for juniors under 16, who must still enrol. Members receive a guide to the club’s waters and can invite up to two guests a day to fish at no cost. A Natural Resources Wales rod licence is needed.
