About River Elwy, Kinmel Beats and Ddol Farm
The club’s Elwy water is a run of beats on the Kinmel Estate and at Ddol Farm, near Pont y Ddol, Pont Meredydd and Pont y Gwyddel. Kinmel Beat 1 is just over half a mile of right bank only, shared with one Wirral Game rod, with the Black Pool just into the second field. Kinmel Beat 2 is one and a half miles of mostly double bank, and Kinmel Beat 3 is another one and a half miles of mostly double bank, with the Bridge Pool and Sheepdip Pool and left bank only on the lowest stretch below the weir above Pont Meredydd. Ddol Farm has classic spate river water of fast runs over boulders and large stones, with a pool at the top of the beat, two towards the middle and one at the end. Salmon may be taken from the pools later in the season and sea trout at night, with the odd decent wild brown trout.
There is parking at each beat, mostly in field gateways, and the club warns of an occasional dangerous bull in the fields at Kinmel Beat 3. The club’s pages give grid references rather than pins, so the position shown is approximate, and this water is in Conwy.
