About River Clwyd, Plasnewydd to Llannerch
These are the club’s lower River Clwyd beats, Plasnewydd, Green Bank and Perthewig, and Llannerch, running from Pontruffydd at Bodfari down towards St Asaph. Plasnewydd and Green Bank are regarded as mainly salmon and sea trout beats that also give good wild brown trout fishing, especially in March, April and May, and the club says dry fly can be very productive at Green Bank. Both are tree lined, and fly, spinner or worm are allowed. Hugh’s Pool is the one named pool at Green Bank, which is nearly all double bank.
Llannerch is the club beat nearest the sea, so salmon and sea trout reach it first once they start entering the river. It has several good pools, including one immediately below the bridge, the Flamingo Pool about 400 metres further down, and a growing population of wild brown trout. The club says it suits spinning and bait best, although fly fishing is possible. The club’s pages do not give coordinates, so the position shown is approximate.
