About the River Wheeler
The River Wheeler, Afon Chwiler in Welsh, is a river in north east Wales and a right bank tributary of the River Clwyd. It rises south of Nannerch, on the east side of the Clwydian Range, and cuts westward through the range in a deep valley, which is why it is described as a misfit stream. It leaves the hills for the Vale of Clwyd below Bodfari.
The A541 follows it for the whole of its length, from Mold to Trefnant, and the old Mold and Denbigh Junction Railway followed it too. It joins the Clwyd west of Aberwheeler, a name that means the mouth, or confluence, of the Wheeler.
