About Ogwen Valley Angling Association, Ffynnon Lloer
Ffynnon Lloer is the highest lake in the Association’s waters, at 673m above sea level. It is a small lake, approximately 250 x 150m, and the Passport says it holds excellent natural wild brown trout up to 1lb. Because of its small size the only method allowed is fly, and fly fishing with a bubble float is strictly prohibited, which gives traditional fly anglers exclusive use of the water.
It is a fairly remote lake. The Passport gives a 45 to 60 minute walk to get there, advises anglers to travel light, be prepared for sudden changes in the weather and always let someone know where they plan to fish. The Association’s website says to start from the A5, walk towards Tal y Llyn farm and follow the stream, and that the path is waymarked in some sections.
No night fishing is allowed, but fishing may carry on into the next day, up to 24 hours from the time you started. The Passport says tickets are available for all of the Ogwen Valley Angling Association waters, each with its own opening and closing dates: Ffynnon Lloer and Llyn Bochlwyd and Llyn Idwal from 20 March to 30 September, Llyn Ogwen from 20 March to 30 November and the River Ogwen from 3 March to 31 October. The Association asks anglers to read its full rules before buying. Float tubes are not permitted and dogs are not allowed. It is booked through the Fishing Passport.
