About River Ely, St Fagans
This is the club’s River Ely water at Fairwater and St Fagans on the western edge of Cardiff. The club describes it as starting in the first field as you leave Fairwater on Cardiff Road, where the north bank only is fished for a short distance until the river goes under a railway bridge. From the next field there is double bank fishing through and past St Fagans, under another railway bridge, to about 50 metres before the A4232 dual carriageway, roughly 2.2 kilometres. Beyond that the north bank only is fished, under the A4232, to the point where the Nant Dowlais joins the Ely just north of St Georges, roughly another 1.7 kilometres.
The club’s species list for the Ely includes brown trout, grayling, sea trout and salmon, as well as coarse fish. It gives no separate game rules for the river beyond the club’s general ones: a club game permit and a game rod licence for salmon and sea trout, and every salmon, sea trout and brown trout returned to the water.
This water is for members; the club has no day tickets or visitors. Its membership page lists a category for the River Taff, the River Ely and Cardiff Bay only, and the fees it shows are headed Taff only. The position shown is approximate, at St Fagans.
