About Honddu Half Moon
Half Moon is just over half a mile of the Honddu, which the Passport describes as the most westerly of the rivers that make up the Monnow system and entirely on the Welsh side of the border. The upper reaches flow through a steep sided, rocky valley in the heart of the Black Mountains. The Passport calls the Honddu an archetypal mountain stream, rushing over bedrock and boulders, through gutters and into deep pools, and says Half Moon is a remote beat where getting about and wading are comparatively straightforward and all but the odd corner is fishable with an 8 foot rod.
It is fly fishing only, all species are catch and release, and dogs are not allowed. It is a Wild Stream beat: it is booked through the Fishing Passport, or fished on a Wild Stream Season Permit.
