About Lugg Pilleth
Lugg Pilleth is a 1½ mile section of upland stream in the hills of the Radnor Forest. It was the site of Owain Glyndwr’s victory over the English army of Sir Edmund Mortimer in 1402, and the battlefield is said to lie on the slopes of Bryn Glas, immediately north of the river. It is double bank throughout, and the silt and gravel bed makes for relatively easy wading. The stream is small enough to need accurate casting into tight areas, but the Passport says overall the beat gives stunning small river trout fishing that will rival any other in its scheme.
The Passport suggests a rod of six and a half to seven and a half feet rated 2 to 4 weight. It is fly fishing only, all species are catch and release, and dogs are not allowed. It is a Wild Stream beat: it is booked through the Fishing Passport, or fished on a Wild Stream Season Permit.
