About River Rhymney, Ystrad Mynach
These are three of the club’s original beats on the River Rhymney at Ystrad Mynach, either side of Royal Oak Bridge. Looking upstream from the bridge there is an east bank beat from the boundary of a dancing school to the Tesco road bridge. Looking downstream there is an east bank beat from the road bridge to the boundary of the dog track. A third beat on the west bank lies within the grounds of the hospital, where the club says four cars can park in the staff car park.
The club lists brown trout, grayling, eels and bullheads as the permanent fish, with salmon and sea trout present from time to time but returned if caught. A maximum of two brown trout of 13 inches or more may be taken in each session. The season is 3 March to 30 September, with fly, worm or spinner. The club sends maps when you join, and says several of its beats are not signed. The position shown is approximate, at Royal Oak Bridge.
