About Seiont, Gwyrfai and Llyfni Fishing Society
The Seiont, Gwyrfai and Llyfni Fishing Society fishes three rivers and a group of lakes around Caernarfon, Llanberis and Rhyd Ddu in Gwynedd. Its website describes the Seiont as the largest of its three rivers and an excellent autumn salmon river, with sea trout from late May, the Llyfni as one of the premier sea trout rivers of Wales, with night fishing popular from July, and the Gwyrfai as a wild river designated a Special Area of Conservation.
The society’s lakes are Llyn Padarn at Llanberis, where it describes wild brown trout and the rare Arctic charr, Llyn Cwellyn at Rhyd Ddu, Llyn Dywarchen, its stocked rainbow trout water, Llyn Nantlle at the top of the Llyfni, and the wild lakes Cwm Dwythwch and Cwm Silyn. Boats are available on some of them and the society runs its own hatchery on the Seiont at Llanrug.
Its licence page lists day, week and season permits for all waters, with junior permits and free fishing for under 12s who are with a full member, and gives the lake season as 20 March to 17 October, apart from Llyn Dywarchen, which runs from 1 April to 30 November. Current prices are on that page. Most of the society’s waters are also sold as Fishing Passport tickets, and one Passport ticket covers any society water on the Passport. The Cwellyn Arms at Rhyd Ddu sells permits and hires boats on the society’s behalf.
