About the River Afon Ogwen

The Afon Ogwen is a river in north west Wales that drains some of the greatest peaks in Snowdonia before it reaches the sea on the eastern side of Bangor. Its main source is Llyn Ogwen beside the A5, fed by the Nant Gwern y Gof, the Afon Denau and the Afon Lloer. At the western end of the lake the river drops over the cataracts of Ogwen Falls and runs north through the glaciated Nant Ffrancon valley.
