About Ogwen Valley Angling Association, Llyn Ogwen
Llyn Ogwen lies alongside the A5 between Tryfan and Pen yr Ole Wen, 310m above sea level. It is a ribbon lake about 1.6km long and 300 to 400m across, fairly shallow at 3 to 4m at its deepest. It holds a good number of natural brown trout and is stocked regularly through the season with rainbow trout; the club’s own website gives their size as 1 to 2lb.
The water is easy to reach at several points from the road, and the far side can be reached by the public footpath from Pont y Benglog near the dam end as far as Tal Llyn Ogwen farm at the east end of the lake. Only rainbow trout may be fished for between 18 October and 30 November. There is no night fishing on the stillwater, and fishing can start at sunrise. The River Ogwen begins at the lake. The Passport lists a 24 hour ticket and a weekly ticket for trout, up to 25 tickets a day. The same ticket covers all of the Association’s waters, each with its own opening and closing dates: Ffynnon Lloer and Llyn Bochlwyd and Llyn Idwal from 20 March to 30 September, Llyn Ogwen from 20 March to 30 November and the River Ogwen from 3 March to 31 October. The club asks anglers to read its full rules before buying. It is booked through the Fishing Passport.
